Sharjah, Guest of Honor at the Bogotá International Book Fair 2027
Sharjah, one of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates, will be the Guest of Honor at the 39th edition of the Bogotá International Book Fair (FILBo), taking place from April 20 to May 3, 2027. Visitors will have the opportunity to discover Sharjah through a rich showcase of its literature, publishing industry, and vibrant cultural heritage.
Sharjah at FILBo for the First Time
Sharjah’s participation in FILBo builds on its longstanding commitment to promoting books, reading, and cultural exchange around the world. In 2019, UNESCO named Sharjah the World Book Capital, recognizing a comprehensive vision that brought together reading promotion, inclusion, heritage preservation, childhood development, and support for the publishing industry.
This vision is reflected in the work of the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), established in 2014 and responsible for internationally renowned initiatives such as the Sharjah International Book Fair and the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival. The Authority also fosters the growth of the publishing sector while creating opportunities for cultural dialogue and knowledge exchange through books.
Sharjah’s publishing ecosystem is further strengthened by Sharjah Publishing City, a dedicated hub designed for publishing and printing companies. This specialized zone serves as a platform for industry development and international collaboration, connecting businesses with markets around the world.
Translation is another cornerstone of Sharjah’s publishing strategy. Through a variety of programs, the Sharjah Book Authority has supported the translation and circulation of literary works between Arabic, English, and many other languages, helping stories, authors, and ideas reach new audiences across cultures.
At FILBo 2027, Sharjah invites readers, writers, publishers, and cultural enthusiasts to explore a world of stories, creativity, and dialogue, building new bridges between the Arab world and Latin America through the power of books.
